My new mixed media paintings are a meeting of ruthless invention and pensive consideration. I carve, drill and layer the surface, working from one part to another. Sometimes I’ve re-invented the surface several times before it is resolved as a finished piece.
Plant-like forms and flesh-garden landscapes emerge as an open-ended narrative. What are these objects that seem to float rootless, but are obviously organic, yet also alien and obscure?
I have always been fascinated by pod-like forms. Transfers of organs and bones become floral in nature, while details of their origin can still be observed in the resulting work.
